Alistair Smith
Meeting the Challenge

Marie Stubbs, Alite 04 keynote speakerAlistair Smith– dubbed ‘Mr Motivator’ by the TES – has been described as the country's leading trainer in modern learning methods. In his presentation, he examined what we mean by challenge, explained why focussing on solutions is so important and offered some of his own.

Lady Marie Stubbs
Ahead of the Class: How an Inspiring Headmistress Gave Children Back Their Future

Marie Stubbs, Alite 04 keynote speakerIn 1995 St George’s Roman Catholic School in Maida Vale hit the headlines when Headmaster Philip Lawrence was stabbed whilst trying to break up a fight between one of his own students and a student from a neighbouring school. In 1998 the school was put into special measures, and in 2000 St George’s was closed for a week after the Head was attacked going to help a fellow teacher.

Marie Stubbs was asked to take over after she left.  She spent a year at St George's where her inspired leadership, her determination and sheer hard work turned the school around. But why, with the prospect of a pleasant retirement on the horizon, did she agree to take it on? Lady Marie explained how she rose to this extraordinary challenge, and to what she accredits her success.

"Marie Stubbs - she was simply outstanding!"

Bear Grylls

Bear Grylls became the youngest Briton to climb Mount Everest at only twenty-three years of age, a feat made even more remarkable as just two years earlier he had a near fatal parachuting accident, almost severing his spinal cord.  Despite moments of great pain and despair, Bear worked hard to regain his mobility and with great persistence he and his team planned their Everest expedition.  Bear entered The Guinness Book of Records on May 26th, joining only thirty British climbers to have successfully completed the expedition and return alive.

"Bear Grylls - inspirational, emotional ... life-changing!"
