Alite 2004 is about challenge: how to recognise it, overcome it and learn from the experience. Challenge confronts individuals, teams and organisations. Some are nominated to face the challenge, others self-select, and some come across it by chance. Our conference provides you with an opportunity to learn from, and alongside, those who have found solutions.

Our keynote speakers provide the spine for the day. They provide different perspectives on what is meant by ‘Meeting the Challenge’. Each will guide us through the learning which arises when we focus on solutions.

Alistair Smith will introduce the conference by defining some of the challenges faced by educators today. He will give an overview of what we mean by challenge, explain why focussing on solutions is so important and offer some of his own.

Marie Stubbs gives an insight into keeping yourself positive and strong-minded enough to meet the challenge of saving a school in sharp decline. How do you develop a team around you when morale is as low as it can be?

Our Case Study Presentations offer solutions from different contexts. We have organised them around loose themes: Primary, Secondary, Community and Challenge. This allows you to create your own programme. We have taken great care to ensure balance. The solutions you will experience include examples of focussing on learning and learners, building purposeful teams, networking, strategic wisdom, creative leadership, emotional intelligence and personal resolve. Some address issues which affect us all, other Case Studies provide solutions to specific problems.
