The Accelerated Learning in
Secondary Schools Programme
The ALiSS programme
is a dynamic, practical training course in which participants
have an opportunity to ground Accelerated Learning principles
in the context of their own school and situation.
The programme is
designed to follow the introductory ÔAccelerated Learning
in the Classroom' day and schools are strongly advised to
book this INSET day prior to the ALiSS. (Please note that
ÔAccelerated Learning in the Classroom' will shortly be replaced
by Starting out with Accelerated Learning' and this will become
the starting point for schools prior to the ALiSS programme).
The ALiSS programme
will explore ideas from the ALiC day in more depth and begin
to coach the school and individuals towards development of
their practice in Accelerated Learning.
The ALiSS programme
is divided into 3 days. These days will generally be spread
across three terms of an academic year but this is flexible.
Day One ø Embedding
Accelerated Learning
Day Two ø Feedback
and Addressing Challenges
Day Three ø Creative
solutions
The programme will model what it teaches
throughout. Practical teaching tools will be presented in
a compelling and memorable way. The teaching points will be
delivered through interactive participation. Participants
will have the opportunity to view video case studies from
schools where Accelerated Learning is integral to the practice.
There will be time for discussion and action planning.
This is a highly participative
and interactive course. The programme is designed with audience
numbers of 50 ø 100 in mind. We recognise that many secondary
schools will have a bigger staff than this and the programme
can be adapted to work with larger numbers.

through a learning taxonomy from extending knowledge and understanding
to demonstrating and consolidating analysis and synthesis.
Schools will gain
the greatest benefit from the ALiSS course when all staff
attend the three day programme. However we recognise that
it is not always possible for every member of staff to attend
each day. Therefore we have designed each day to stand alone
so that individuals who miss a day can still understand and
enjoy the content and be able to make positive changes when
they return to school. We recommend that each day is run separately
to give teachers time to put their new learning into practice
before attending subsequent days.
