Picture the Music
Using the auditory and visual senses to develop creative writing, thinking skills, drama and music composition.
This day course is designed and delivered by Philip Davis. It will give you the skills and confidence to use Picture the Music, an innovative software teaching tool created by Philip. The course includes 3 copies of the software and 30 unique dry wipe templates.
Course Outline
Session 1 and 2 will require 1 PC for every 2/3 people
Session 1
In the first session you will learn about the skills involved in Picture the Music. Look, Listen, Think and Write. You will discover how to use thought maps to organise and generate ideas. You will use the special dry wipe templates that come with the software.
You will then be taken through the software and shown how to design your own creative lessons. You will learn about all the features in this powerful learning tool.
Session 2
This will deal with applications of Picture the Music.
Philip will show you the many different ways he has used this software in the classroom. You will try out the ideas yourself.
You will see how to design a lesson from scratch. You will discover how to use just music to create wonderful thoughts and ideas, etc.
This session will enable you to become confident in using Picture the Music.
You will be given the chance to discuss how you could apply these techniques in your own classroom situation.
Session 3 (afternoon)
This is a highly practical session where you will learn how to create a composition project using Picture the Music as a stimulus.
You will be shown how to develop musical skills and apply them in the final composition. You will see that music is in us all.

Philip Davis is a teacher and a musician who believes that the heart of all learning should be fun.
He works all over the UK promoting his methods and delivering his highly acclaimed course on creative learning. He still works regularly in the classroom developing his techniques further. |
He is an associate consultant for QCA and has worked with them on enhancing the curriculum using music.
He is the creator of the 'Beat It' series of CDs which link the content of learning to melody and rhythym. He also composed 'Move It' - a collection of tunes to help integrate movement into the classroom and develop a more dynamic learning environment.
