What is Coaching?
Coaching is a skill set which is increasingly being used alongside mentoring, tutoring and guidance, to broker change in adults and young people. Many schools and colleges are noticing the difference made through encouraging more independent and reflective thinking with coaching techniques. The skills are essential to fostering the right attitudes for groups and individuals to achieve goals and overcome limitations. Coaching techniques help identify and change unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour. Coaching is powerful because it allows people to access their inner motivational triggers, in a way that mentoring may not. It works with both the conscious and the unconscious processes of the mind to access high levels of motivation. It provides approaches for working with a range of people including those whose behaviour challenges us.
What will the course be like?
A wide variety of learning approaches makes this programme a stimulating, thought-provoking and practical experience. The training is an experiential approach to the skills of supporting others to develop in schools. The session will explore the boundaries of coaching and mentoring, enhance your understanding of motivation and equip you with the skills that will enable you to get the very best out of teams and individuals within a school. Delegates will work on their own professional performance throughout the programme and support others to do the same.

The Programme
We offer two key courses to develop the essential skills of coaching and to enable the blending of these skills with other more commonly used approaches:
The one day Coaching for Performance course
The two day Advanced Coaching for Performance course
Participants attending the two day advanced course should have attended the one day course. The courses may be run concurrently as a three day block, or day one can be completed and attendance on days two and three can take place at a later date.
The programmes are also available as whole school training packages and can be tailored to your institution's needs.
