Simon Percival
Simon Percival is a popular presenter, writer and personal development coach whose teaching experience includes secondary, sixth form and prison education. His enthusiasm for empowering everyone with the practical know-how to become effective learners and achievers, and to inspire it in others, is apparent to everyone attending his training courses.
With a first class honours degree complementing qualifications in Psychology and Coaching, Simon brings a breadth of knowledge as well as experience to his work with schools and individuals. As a teacher he experienced first-hand the benefits of developing a positive learning environment that supported and encouraged students in their learning. He has held a number of posts in schools, including Convenor of a four-school English consortium, and has long held an interest in improving learning for all, in one school working on the Raising Standards Committee and co-writing versatile revision guides based on set texts in literature.
Amongst his publications are Thinking for Learning (co-authored with Mel Rockett), which provides an introduction to Thinking Skills and how they can be practically merged with Accelerated Learning, and The Practical Guide to Revision Techniques , a user-friendly book for students containing a range of study strategies and tips. In addition, Simon visits Primary and Secondary schools across the UK , chronicling some of the best learning and teaching practice for the Alite website and newsletter. He is also responsible for compiling the annual Alite conference book, which provides delegates with details of how the day's presenters are helping learners fulfill their potential.
Simon is a seasoned traveller. He arrived in the classrooms of England via sun-soaked Polynesian villages and work with international singing star, Demis Roussos. His extensive travels have seen him working in several different countries, including Australia and New Zealand, hitchhiking and meeting locals along the way. He's now settled in Yorkshire with his wife and sons – and hasn't yet told his neighbours that he's really a Lancastrian by birth!
