James Inman
James Inman, born in Bradford, started his primary education in Clifton, West Yorkshire, completing his secondary education in Brighouse and his degree and teaching qualification in Chester. He started teaching at Wellington School (Cheshire) in 1999. Within a year of teaching there he was given responsibility for co-ordinating the KS4 curriculum with the MFL Department. In need of a different challenge, in September 2001 James was promoted to Gifted & Talented Co-ordinator at Stamford High School (Tameside). Later that year Stamford underwent an Ofsted inspection. James was observed across 4 curriculum areas and was encouraged to apply for an AST post by the Chief Inspector. He qualified for AST status (Motivating Reluctant Learners) in September 2002.
James joined the Leadership Team in 2003 with the role of Lead Learning Professional in the school, a role which has now developed into Assistant Headteacher for Teaching and Learning. It was within the SLT at Stamford that he met Dave Watson with whom he shared a common interest in the work of Alite in general and Accelerated Learning in particular. Dave and James attended Mark Lovatt’s course How to Create an Accelerated Learning School in the spring of 2004 and they were so inspired that they persuaded their Headteacher to let them run with a new initiative in keeping with the school vision to introduce Accelerated Learning alongside a home grown L2L course in Y7. The success of this was rapid, initially recognised by HMI Iwaskow and later came to the attention of Alistair Smith. Together they now host Open Day style conferences at Stamford attended by colleagues from all over the country and provide a consultancy service to a number of schools to give an insight into how the cultural shift which has gained national recognition for the school was brought about.
