Andy Hind

Andy believes, above all, that schools should be about learners learning and not teachers teaching. He is passionate about promoting learning for all and is keen to promote this within the schools that he supports.

Andy strongly believes that if schools are to raise standards, there needs to be a shift from 'delivering' content to a culture where the focus is on 'how' a learner learns and how this can be promoted within an educational context. He believes that schools need to look to do things differently and that at the core of every educational establishment should be an aim of supporting 'better learners'.

Andy began his teaching career in secondary education. He then moved to Middle School education and worked in a number of Year 4 to Year 7 Middle Schools, in different leadership roles, before finally leading a First School, where the young learners' ages ranged from 4 to 8 years.   It was during his leadership in the Primary phase schools that Andy really began to research and promote learning for all.  Using Accelerated Learning principles, the schools created a culture in which everyone was seen as a learner and everyone was seen as a leader, children and adults alike.

Andy believes that many young learners are not in the right state of mind to be learning and that valuable time should be given to creating a climate for learning before the teaching and learning actually begins. He is keen to explore issues around emotional intelligence, motivation and stress as being factors that can 'make or break' learning. He also recognises that a 'good learner' will demonstrate certain skills or disciplines and that these need to be promoted and made explicit with the young learners.

Andy has considerable experience of working with Headteachers, Senior Leaders and teachers to help them develop and improve the quality of learning experiences provided to all children. He has spent time working in an advisory capacity for various LEAs in the field of teaching and learning. He has worked with the National College of School Leadership and has also trained with OFSTED.
